Barbara L. "Barb" (Haller) Griffith, 67 of Kingsley, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, at UnityPoint in Sioux City, after a brief illness. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Barb was born Dec. 4, 1955, in Sioux City, IA, to Frank and Kay (Duryea) Haller. Barb attended Smith Elementary, West Middle and was a member of the first graduating class from West High School in 1974. She was a USPS mail carrier in Sioux City for 22 years and retired in April 2015.
Barb married her best friend, Steve Griffith on Dec. 21, 1995. They moved to Kingsley in 2002 to an acreage outside of town. To Steve's surprise, Barb started remodeling immediately. Barb was extremely creative and turned their home into a wonderful "resort" in the middle of the corn fields. They enjoyed a wide variety of activities including, boating, junking and the outdoors. They truly enjoyed each other's company and treasured sitting around a fire in the evening talking about their plans.
Barb was a tireless advocate for her children, Stephanie and Matthew. She was known for her generosity and selflessness. Barb loved flowers and had beautiful gardens surrounding the house. She was a great cook and put the rest of us to shame with her baking and her culinary abilities.
Barb is survived by Steve, her husband of 28 years; two sons, Matthew of Sioux City, and Drew (Jessica) Griffith of Merril, Iowa; one daughter, Meggan (Matt) McDonald of Salix, Iowa; four sisters, Deb Sturzl, Patty (Gary) Walters, Cathy (Rob) McClary and Carrie (Dave) Knapp; one sister-in-law, Mary Haller; six grandchildren: Kaleb (Ashley) and Kora McDonald, Carson and Landon Griffith, and Hayden and Mason Sitzmann; her mother-in-law, Betty Griffith; brother-in-law, Randy Griffith; sister-in-law, Laurie (Brion) Thomas; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Barb's passing was followed two days later by her hero and big brother, Steve Haller.
Barb was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Kay Haller; her daughter, Stephanie; grandson, Kage McDonald; father-in-law, Warren Griffith; and two brothers-in-law, Bruce Sturzl and Rick Griffith.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff from the ICU at Unity Point for the care and compassion they showed Barb and her family.
