Betty Jean Andersen, 85, of Kingsley, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.Visitation will be Friday, March 30, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m., and prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Kingsley United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 31, at 11:00 a.m., at the Kingsley United Methodist Church, followed by lunch at the church, with burial following at the Correctionville Cemetery, under the direction of the Rohde Funeral Home. Betty Jean Andersen was born March 3, 1927 in Correctionville, Iowa to Guy and Dora (Clark) Keller. She graduated from Correctionville High School in 1946. She married Harley "Whitey" Andersen on November 13, 1947 in Correctionville, Iowa. In 1949, they bought the Wausa Gazette in Wausa, Nebraska. They sold it in 1955. In 1956, they bought the Kingsley News-Times and, after owning and operating the newspaper for 20 years, they retired in February of 1976.Betty was a member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church. She was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Garfield Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also co-leader of Campfire Girls when her girls were small. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society in Spirit Lake. Betty loved to cook and entertain, and she always had a fresh-baked pie, cake or cookies on hand for anyone who stopped by for a chat.Survivors include her three daughters, Karen and her husband, Tom Bennett, of Denver, Colorado, Carol and her husband John Schwartz, of Hospers, Iowa, and Susan Steffen of Moville, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Tyler Martinson, Timothy and Rebecca Bennett, Kelly Andersen and Kevin Kirchner, and Cory and Eric Steffen; three great grandchildren, Ravyn Andersen and Jaycee and Gavin Kirchner.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Whitey Andersen, her sister, Phyllis Kroeger and her brother, Donald Keller.
