Caroline A Kurtenbach

Caroline Ann (Erickson) Kurtenbach, 71, passed away unexpectedly from a sudden stroke at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA on Sunday, July 19, 2015.Caroline Ann Kurtenbach was born in Vermillion, SD on September 2, 1943, to Theodore and Johanna (Lucken) Erickson. The family later moved to Spencer, IA, where she graduated from high school in 1961. She attended college at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN for two years and then transferred to the University of Iowa, where she graduated in 1965 with a double major in mathematics and computers and a minor in German. She continued her education at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, where she received her Master's Degree in high school teaching in 1966.Caroline met Roger before leaving Vermillion. They were married on June 16, 1968 in Spencer, IA. They moved to Westfield in August that year, and their first daughter, Dianne, was born in 1969 when they still lived there. The family moved to Birmingham, AL in 1973, where their second daughter, Darla, was born the following spring.In 1980, the family moved back to IA to be closer to their families. They lived in Algona, IA from 1980-1995. The couple moved to Havelock, IA when Roger began his ministry with the United Methodist Church. They later moved to Fort Dodge and then settled in Kingsley in 2006, where Caroline and Roger celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on June 16, 2013.Over the years, Caroline taught in both high school and college levels. Her most recent position was with Western Iowa Tech Community College, where she was an adjunct professor and also enjoyed tutoring.She is survived by her loving husband, Roger, two daughters, Dianne (Curt) Ditmanson and Darla Kurtenbach; two brothers: Gus (Jan) and David (Betty) Erickson; many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Caroline was proceeded in death by her parents, her father and mother-in-law, Benjamin and Stella Kurtenbach, and several brother and sister-in-laws. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Seney United Methodist Church and Cure Alzheimer's Fund.
