Elna J. Lindgren, 90, of Kingsley passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsley.Elna Jean was born August 14, 1922 in Grand Meadow Township to Richard Ernest and Ollie Grace (Buckle) Nairn Thomson. She attended school at Grand Meadow, graduating in 1939. She graduated from National Business Training School in 1940 and worked as a secretary at REC in Cherokee and at Toy National Bank in Sioux City, Iowa until her marriage.Elna was united in marriage to John P. Lindgren on November 25, 1943 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux City. They resided briefly in Sioux City before beginning their farming career March 1, 1944. They lived just south of Kingsley until March 1947, when they moved to a farm two miles north of Kingsley. They farmed there until 1977 when they moved into Kingsley. They continued to farm until they retired in 1983. On September 5, 2012, John and Elna moved into the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.Elna was baptized April 19, 1949 and confirmed April 24, 1949 at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. She was an active member of Dorcas and Leah Circles as well as Lamplighters. She was a long-standing member of Plymouth County Farm Bureau. Elna is survived by her husband of 69 years, John; two sons, Stanley (Sylvia) and Jim (Karen) Lindgren both of Kingsley; four daughters, Carol (Wendell) Dickey of Urbandale, IA, Colleen (Bob) Murphy of Olathe, KS, Gloria (Craig) Merry of Sioux City, IA and Shari Lindgren of Kimball, NE; grandchildren, Randy (Tammi) Dickey of Urbandale, IA, Dawn (Chad) Kestner of Altoona, IA, Cory (Kim) Lindgren of Kingsley, Wendy (Craig) Moritz of Pierson, IA, Kirk (Nicole) Lindgren of Kingsley, Michael (Megan) Lindgren of Peterson, IA, Kim (Brad) Tusa of Jackson, MN, Nikki (Curtis) Motz of Kingsley, Taylor and Dreysen Lindgren of Kingsley, Lindsay Murphy of Lenexa, KS, Michele Murphy of Olathe, KS, Kyle (Amanda) Merry of Centerville, IA and Bryan (Carrie) Merry of Lincoln, NE; great-grandchildren, Haley Dickey, Ryan Dickey, Avery Kestner, Gavin Tusa, Caden Tusa, Shaylee Foster, Addi Foster, Raylee Lindgren, Alex Lindgren, Mitchell Moritz, McKenna Moritz, Trae Moritz, Max Lindgren, Dexter Lindgren, and Jaxson Lindgren; several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, three half brothers, Melvin, Forrest,and Lloyd Nairn; and grandson-in-law, Aaron Foster.Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Kingsley or the American Red Cross.
