PIERSON, IOWA: LILLIE EMMA EWERT, 97, of Pierson, Iowa, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 01, 2012, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Pierson, Iowa, with Pastor Lorene Glant officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Pierson, Iowa. Visitation will be Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. with the family present 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rohdefh.com. Lillie Emma Ewert was born December 15, 1914, rural Pierson, Iowa, the daughter of W.K. and Anna M. (Hanfeld) Herbold. She grew up in the Pierson area graduating from Pierson High School. After graduation from high school she worked in Sioux City, Iowa, after working in Sioux City she married Elmer Ewert, they were married at Salem Lutheran Church. After their marriage they lived and farmed in the Pierson area until their retirement. After retiring they continued to live on their farm. Lillie was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Sunday school teacher, Sarah Circle of Salem Lutheran Church, and a member of Pierson P.T.A., she was very devoted to helping with any church activities. She was active in the Mission of the Messiah, quilting projects for the church, remembering birthdays and special occasions for her family and friends. Lillie was always willing to help her family and friends with anything that she could, and she was very faithful in reading daily devotions. Lillie was a hard working homemaker who sought to do her best to assist her family and lending a helping hand to her friends. Survivors include her three daughters, Karen A. Lund of Pierson, Iowa, Barbara Jane Ewert of Warwick, New York, and Patricia A. Ewert-Flannagan of Pierson, Iowa, two grandsons, Terry (Tanya) Lund of Conroe, Texas, Tracy Dean Lund, Sioux City, Iowa, and a great - grandson, Drake Lund of Conroe, Texas. Lillie is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Shirley Herbold, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Elmer, three sisters, Louise Edwards, Ella Elser and Irene Michaelson, and one brother, W.R. Herbold. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Salem Lutheran Church Kitchen Restoration Project.
