Roger J Irwin

August 5, 1932 — February 3, 2016

Roger Jay Irwin was born August 6, 1932, in Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of R.J. & Elizabeth (Burleigh) Irwin. He was raised in the Grand Meadow area graduating from Grand Meadow High School in 1950. After graduation from high school, Roger served in the U.S. Army from 1953 - 1955. Roger completed his basic training at Camp Polk in Louisiana before being stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Roger and Marjorie Carlson were married January 10, 1954 at the Pierson Methodist Church, Pierson, Iowa. After their marriage they lived at Fort Sill, Oklahoma while Roger was in the Army. After his honorable discharge in 1955 they moved back to the farm in rural Remsen, Iowa where they have resided and worked for 61 years.Roger was a member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church where he also served on the church board for many years, he served on the Kingsley Elevator Board for many years. He was a 60-year member of the American Legion Nash Post 140 of Kingsley. As a semi-retired farmer Roger began to work for Farmers Mutual Hail Co. as a hail adjuster, also he was Federal Crop Adjuster, and served as clerk for Henry Township.Roger is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie, and six children, Cindy (Rick) Magnuson of Evergreen, CO, Sharon (Gaylen) Spink, Kingsley, IA, Karen Irwin, Sussex, WI, Gina (Randy) Harder, Bowman, ND, Rodney (Denice) Irwin, Kingsley, IA, Rick (Angel) Irwin, Maurice, IA and 15 grandchildren, Lana (Dan) Blomberg of Great Falls, MT, Lindi (Austin) Bolender of Kingsley, IA, Lance Spink of California, MD, Josh Harder of Omaha, NE, Chris (Lyndsey) Harder of Carbondale, CO, Beau Harder of Dickinson, ND, Jeremiah Harder of Dickinson, ND, Heather Harder of St. Cloud, MN, Ranelle Irwin of Storm Lake, IA, Bailey, Nick and Andy Irwin of Kingsley, IA, Chance, Arianna and Shaylee Irwin of Maurice, IA, and 4 great grandchildren, Haley and Andrew Blomberg, Jalen Spink and Lily Bolender along with several nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, Willis and Dick, and one sister, Kathlene Brown.
