Twila Mae was born May 29, 1934, Grand Meadow, Iowa, the daughter of Rex L. and Elma A. (Nafe) Klingensmith. She grew up in the Washta area graduating from Grand Meadow High School in 1951. After graduation she worked at various jobs before becoming bookkeeper for Culligan where she worked for 33 years. Twila was very involved with Meadow Star Methodist Church where she held several offices of the church and she was a lifelong member. She and Keith Klaschen were married November 7, 1954 at the Meadow Star Methodist Church. They made their home in the Grand Meadow area where they raised their family. They retired from farming in 1987 then moving into Washta where they lived. Keith died April 16, 2006, after his passing Twila continued to live in Washta.Twila was an active volunteer for Grand Meadow Heritage Center and very proud of her Grand Meadow Heritage.Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Mae (Les) Mohning of Marcus, IA, one son, Lonnie (Marsha) Klaschen of Washta, IA, five grandsons, Travis (Charissa) Schlenger, Chad (Laura) Schlenger, Kory (Stephanie) Schlenger, Cody (Debbie) Klaschen, Boomer Klaschen and his special friend, Kassie, two granddaughters, Kiley Mae and Amanda Klaschen, six great-grandsons, Mark and Timothy Schlenger, Carter Klaschen and Aiden Peterson, Kevin and Seth Schlenger, 5 great-granddaughters, Breanne, Abigail & Reese Schlenger, Baylee and Kennedy Klaschen . Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Lee (Betz) Elser of Fresno, CA, and Gail Jean (Roger) Chinn of Grassy Butte, ND, and one brother, Larry (Penny) Klingensmith of Washta, Iowa. Twila's extended family includes three grandsons, Chris (Nicole), Tim (Sherry) and Charlie Mohning, a granddaughter, Jenny (Jared) Schoenrock, 13 great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.Twila was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Keith, brother-in-law Ray Elser, and nephew Rene` Elser.
